There is still no official info on NBA 2K23, but 2K has already announced that the first news will be revealed in July, as well as sponsoring the NBA Summer League, which will take place in Las Vegas from July 7 to 17. 2K confirmed on Twitter the partnership between the franchise and the summer league, in which all 30 NBA teams will participate.
2K launched NBA 2K19 on September 7, 2018, NBA 2K20 on September 6, 2019, NBA 2K21 on September 4, 2020, and last year, NBA 2K22 was launched on September 10, 2021. Some rumors indicate that NBA 2K23 could be launched on Friday, September 16, but we will have to wait for the official announcement from 2K. July has traditionally been the period when 2K releases the first information about its annual release.
In 2020, 2K released the covers in early July, and last year, on July 14, 2K Sports revealed the cover art for NBA 2K22. If we follow this line of announcements, it is very likely that we will know the next cover athlete and the different editions of NBA 2K23 during the course of the 2022 NBA Summer League.
In addition to the release date and covers, 2K is expected to announce the consoles such as PS5 and Xbox Series X and platforms on which NBA 2K23 will be available. A moment that the PC community is eagerly awaiting because NBA 2K21 was first NBA 2K game released on new-gen consoles and since then, the version of NBA 2K21 and NBA 2K22 for PC has been current-gen. So this year there are high expectations to see NBA 2K23 in its next gen version on PC.
Who are the NBA 2K23 Cover Athletes
At the moment everything is speculation about the future cover athlete for NBA 2K23, but it would not be unreasonable to think of one of the players with the highest overall rating.
If you are wondering which players made it to the top 10 in the latest NBA 2K22 roster update, here is the list: 1. Giannis Antetokoumpo (97), LeBron James (96), Kevin Durant (96), Joel Embiid (96), Stephen Curry (96), Nikola Jokic (96), Luka Doncic (95), Kawhi Leonard (95), Ja Morant (93) and James Harden (92).
From this list, several players have already been cover athletes in previous years: Giannis Antetokounmpo (NBA 2K19), LeBron James (NBA 2K14 and NBA 2K19), Kevin Durant (NBA 2K13 and NBA 2K15), Stephen Curry (NBA 2K16), Luka Doncic (NBA 2K22) and James Harden (NBA 2K16).
So it would make sense to see Embiid, Jokic or Ja Morant this year as NBA 2K23 cover athlete. Embiid and Jokic have fought to be the MVP of the 2021/2022 NBA Season, which was finally won by the Serbian player, while Ja Morant received the award for the Most Improved Player in the NBA.

NBA 2K23 Editions
Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic or Ja Morant could be the cover athlete for the Standard Edition, but we already know that 2K also releases other versions with extra content: the Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition. Here, we may see a nod to two of the best players in NBA history, Michael Jordan and LeBron James referring to the year 23 in correspondence with the number worn by both.
